The new North Bay Community Recreation Centre will replace the aging West Ferris Community Centre. The building, which will become part of the Steve Omischl Sports Complex, will house two NHL-sized rinks for both tournament and practice use, spectator viewing areas for more than 600 people, a concession, and a multi-purpose room to serve the community. The design also features a second-storey indoor track that looks onto the tournament arena from on side, and out towards the surrounding forest to the other. The Y-shaped Community Recreation Centre creates a social heart in the centre where the three prongs intersect, allowing visitors to view both rinks at once.
