To answer a district-wide demand for more beds, the Board of Management of Eastholme added a new three storey, 22,600 square foot wing to their existing building. The new single storey wing was attached to the existing Home by an enclosed link for the 32 new long term care facility beds. All of the dining, activity and lounge space for the new Resident Home Area is also incorporated into this addition. While not a dedicated dementia care facility, the new wing was designed to assist in the care and management of such individuals, including a continuous walking path and secure outdoor environments.
With the valuable input of the management and staff, we designed the new facilities to reflect Eastholme’s philosophy of assisting the seniors to retain direction, pride and dignity in their lives.
Shorty after completion of the new beds the original home was classified “D” and was required to be redeveloped. A second project was undertaken which included renovation of an addition to the existing home which provided the East District of Parry Sound with 24 more beds, and the re-development of the original 72 beds. The project included the addition of a new floor above the previously completed wing. We also renovated the three storey original building and added one three storey addition.
The result of these two projects, completed within a fully operational home, was a fully redeveloped 128 bed long term care home.
